On Aug. 2 Look my dog down
lo McKay Creek park to cool olf
in the river, It's the park across
the street from Shopper's Drug
Mart in Capilano Mall.

As [crossed Hamilton Street to
go to the park | noticed garbage
strewn through the blackberry
bushes and on the side of the
road.

There is no sidewalk, only
grass which was littered with
A&W bags, coffee cups and shop-
ping buggies that had been pushed
down the banks of the creek into
the bushes,

I looked all the way down
Hamilton Street and saw more
garbage along the path.

My dog ana I continued down
the path in the park and came
across more floating garbage in
the creek; a half submersed shop-
ping cart and bits of rusty metal
objects.

To my surprise I saw two cray-
fish and some small fish swim-
ming around even though they
were forced to share their home
with all the trash.

It is really sad to see the graffi-
tion the picnic tables and garbage
lying around when there are two
garbage cans available. ‘

In the 26 years that | have
lived in North Vancouver I have
fever seen a park so abused.
When we came to the end of the
park there were two more com-
pletely submerged shopping carts
in a pool.

Perhaps we should put the lit-
tering fines up higher and throw
shopping carts in the back of a
truck instead of a creek that still
has fish in it.

If you can find me a big truck,
garbage bags and more volunteers
I will do my best to clean up the
trash along the roud and McKay
Creek Park.
