Crash injures five FIVE PEOPLE were sent to hospital April 26 following a head-on coltision on the Squamish Highway near the Furry Creek Bridge. The accident occurred at approximately 10:55 a.m., according to a Squamish RCMP spokesman. A 1992 Honda Civic lost control, crossed over a dou- ble solid tine and collided head-on with a 1981 Datsun pickup trucl:. Two Victoria occupants of the Honda were airlifted to hospital. Three Port Coquitlam occupants of the pickup truck, Kelly Ridgicy, Christina Lee Hrynchuk and an eight-month-old girl, were taken to Lions Gate Hospital. Fo press time, the driver of the Honda was in critical condition with head injuries at Vancouver General Hos- pital. The other injured were treated for non-life-threatening injurfes. ‘Fhe cause of the accident is still under investigation. The police have not released the names of the occu- pants of the Honda to press time Tuesday. Hearing scheduled A MAN charged with second-degree murder in connec- tion with the April 22 shooting of a North Vancouver Goctor was scheduled to appear in North Vancouver provincial court today for a preliminary hearing. David Roger Henderson, 49, of North Vancouver was charged aftez Dr. Verne Flather, 55, was shot and killed in front of his house in the 400-block of East Keith Road. — . Henderson made a brief appearance in court on Mon- day. North Vancouver RCMP have no motive for the shooting. Flather, who had his own praciice, also worked as 2 general practitioner at Lions Gate Hospital. Spraying, resumes THE GYPSY moth eradication project aerial spray pro- gram resumed helicopter spraying in the Eagle Harbour residential area April 28. As of Tuesday the first phase of aerial spraying of in- secticide is complete. The second aeriai and ground spray application is set for a May 1 start, weather permitting. Sentences surveyed A SURVEY recently conducted by the Carson Graham Counter Attack Club revealed that 90% of the survey's respondents disapprove of a court decision made earlier this year to reduce the sentences of three convicted drunk drivers. The student group surveyed 500 senior students and staff members at the North Vancouver secondary school. Counter Attack asked those surveyed if they strongly agreed, agreed, disagreed or strongly disagreed with the court action. Of those who responded, 73% strongly disagreed while 17% disagreed. Ten per cent agreed or strongly agreed with the sentencing reductions. Physician session DOCTORS THROUGHOUT the North Shore and B.C. wilt close their offices tomorrow from 10 a.m. to i p.m. to participate in a study session at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre. B.C. Medical Association (BCMA) president Dr. Gur Singh, who will be one cf the speakers, said he expects a ferge turnout. Singh will discuss the current negotiations between doctors and the provincial government. He added that the BCMA will fight to restore ‘‘its right to negotiate fees’ with Victoria and to participate in setting the health care budget ‘which not only caps physiciens but caps patient care."’ Discussions will include a plan of action to deal with ’ the provincial government. Burning out AS OF 7 p.m. April 30, West Vancouver residents will no longer be able to burn garden refuse at home. According to a West Vancouver Fire Department spokesman, the bylaw enabling residents to burn garden refuse runs out on April 30. Land-clearing permits for newly cleared areas can still be obtained from the fire depertment. Beach fires are permitted in designated areas at Ambleside Beach seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m." Council is reviewing the municipal backyard burning policy.
