Coliege seeks to use
government job grants

what jobs they would per-
form under the grants, the
issue was not a major
obstacle to contract negotia-

cording to B.C. public af-
fairs counsel Dick Melville.

gram, he said, is to provide

available to B.C.'s 15 col-
leges, six institutions, and
three universities to March
3, 1986 total approximately
$545,000.

Executive officer of the
college’s student society
Marc Rovner said Monday
that students at the college
should be given access to any
available employment grant
programs, but not at mini-
mum wage scales.

Rovner said the student
society is advocating the
topping off of student wages
to somewhere in the range of
$7 per hour.

The issue facing the. col-
lege, Jardine said, should
not be for parties in the in-
stitution to decide: ‘‘I think
that is incorrect. It should be
up to the students to decide
if they want to take advan-
tage of the grant monies or
not.”
