Last season with the less than successful Fury he managed to wind up fourth overall in N.A.S.L. scoring. These players, plus the others who will be signed this weck will ensure Whitecaps of their reputation of fielding a strong team who keep going in spite of any and all pressures. It was something in that hokey old song they put together and also in the closeness of the players and the front office. It was also the excitement of the office staff with what was being born and developing and the fun of | chipping in to catch tha feeling. But most of all it was what was happening out on the field of Empire Stadium. Withour drum - pounding or cheerleading or major league gimmicks, a bunch of guys in short pants were somehow managing to create a magic on the field and in the stands. There was form of communication taking place between the players and the crowd that didn’t need words. A SPECIAL NIGHT The peak of this com- munication happened on a night last August when Aztecs came to town for the second game of the playoffs. There was a magic that night that was felt by the players and the crowd, an electricity. that is really a once in lifetime experience. A night when everything on the field and in the stands was almost interchangeable. Something exciting was born and ‘of course it grew into a champion. However, we are told, everything changes. Seasons come and seasons go and the leaves on the trees fall off so others may take their place with the Whitecaps.
