As the crocus, grape hyacinth, daffodils and tulips begin to bloom outdoors, you can replicate this cheerful effect inside your ome. Potted bulb flowers are widely available in garden centres, supermarkets and convenience stores now. By choosing pots of flowering bulbs in the same colors you planted last fall in the garden, you can create an eye-pleasing continuity between your “exterior decorating”’ in the garden and the “interior of your house or apart- ment. For example, yellow daffodils and crocus, or blue crocus, grape hyacinth and -glory-of-the-snow (i.e. Chionodoxa) combine very well. Small botanical tulips (deep red, yellow or white), scillas (shades of blue) and the dark purple or clear blue of miniature Iris reticulata make a delightful indoor display. There are mid-sized tulips in pots that fit well into home decor, such as ‘Pinocchio’ (scarlet with ivory/white-edged petals); ‘Flair’ (red, with a butter-yellow heart), and ‘Yellow Pzesent’ and ‘Red Present’, named for their vivid colors. To create a visually dramatic centrepiece, try lining the outside edge of a large, shallow bowl or basket with green plants such as ivy, and place the pots of bulb flowers in the middle. Cover the edge of the pots and space among them with petting soil and/or moss. When the bulb fiowers fade, just lift the entire pot and replace with fresh daf- fodils, crocus, tulips, etc. For something a little different this Easter, add some stuffed chicks and bunnies to the ar- tangement, decorate with bright tibbons and bows among the flowering bulbs to make a bright, festive centrepiece for the holiday.
