A garden built in mem-
ory of a little girl at
the Waldorf school has

been vandalized yet
again.

Liadsay Gordon, 10, died
five years ago after falling out
of a maple tree during recess
at the independent North
Vancouver school.

At the time her grieving
parents, John Gordon and Jan
Bryant, organized a memorial
fund and garden to commem-
orate Lindsay’s life.

But since then the garden
has been targeted by vandals
uiumerous umes. So just this
year a protective railing was
built around the garden by
Grade 8 studerts ar the
school.

But in the latest incident
last week, the railing was
pulled down and the memori-

al garden damaged again.

Bryant was the business
administrator of the school at
the time of her daughrer’s
death. Since the garden was
established to try, in a small
way, to make sense of the
tragedy, she said her family is
devastated by the vandalism.

Const. Tom Seaman,
media liaison for the North
Vancouver police department,
said the damage is 4 sad com-
mentary of haw some chil-
dren are raised today.

“The ones that are doing
the vandalism seem to have no
regard for property,” said
Seaman, “They don’t seem to
care if it’s something special
like thar — it probably makes
it more of an attractive target
to them.”

This is just one of many
acts of vandalism the depart-
ment deals with, he said, and
unless one of the perpetrators
informs on another it’s pretty
hard to catch them.

-The last Westview Area Planning Study Community Meeting will
~be held on Thursday, July 9th, 1998 at the North Vancouver City
Hall Council Chambers from.7:00 to 10:00pm. A presentation of
the Study will be made at 7:00pm, including the Study conclusions
and recommendations. This will be followed by an opportunity for

: you to ask questions and make suggestions. about chauges to the
Study. . :

This is the final public consultation event for this Study. Please
come and let.us know what your thoughts are about the draft rec-
ommendations. A ballot will be available to let us know what you
1and-out for the Draft Study will be available at City Hall from
onday, July 6th. A display of all the materials from the Westview

Area Planning Study will be set up in the City Hall lobby on July
9th from noon onwards.
