COMMERCIAL artist Colin Hempsal!l spent more than 50 years
honing his craft but it wasn’t until retirement that he developed a
passion for marine watercolors.

Hempsall. whose works go on display at the Seymour Art
Gallery July 24, is a graduate of the Vancouver School of Art,
where he studied under Jack Shadbolt and B.C. Binning.

The avid sailor credits his 1977-78 sola voyage to the South
Pacific for rekindling his interest in fine-arts painting after a
lengthy career in the commercial arts.

Hempsall's marine watercolors are on display at the gallery,
4360 Gallant Ave., Deep Cove, through to Aug. 18. A reception
with the artist is scheduled for July 24. 7 to 9 p.m. Hempsall will
give a slide show of his work on July 26 at ! p.m.
