But last Tuesday, too many arts fans missed a great party at Presentation House Arts Centre. Hosting the bush was the North Shore Arts Commission and the occasion was the inauguration of the Fund for the Arts on the North Shore, or FANS for short. The evening will see over $2,000 deposited with the North Shore Charitable Foundation for the future support, development and promotion of arts on the North Shore. Just as importantly, the evening was a chance for the North Shore to celebrate the wonderfully cre- ative talents our cleaner air seems to nurture. Thanks to Cydney Nielsen, soloist with the Anna Wyman Dance Company, the improvisa- tional comedy of 43 Lbs. of Wasted Space (catch them every Friday at | 1 pan. at Presentation House), the award-winning writers of the North Shore Writers Association (Gerhard Winkler, Adeline Wilson and Colleen Heinrich), the blossoming talents of Capilano College music stu- dents Dawn Coulter, Leslie Scholton and Sung Min Ahn and last. but definitely not least, the energy and joy of the vocal ensem- ble Pandora’s Vox. Hosting the evening were two. local actors: the always clegant and soon-to-be-famous-television-star (Nobody's Business) Gillian Barber and shoe-fetishist Peter Jorgensen of The Backwards Zone and Uncle Randy Productions (ask him if /nto The Woods is fully cast yet). The 1995 FANS Award (a beau- tiful glass sculpture by North Shore artist Marina Papais) was awarded to “an internationally- renowned North Shore artist with a substantial and recognized body of work.” : Short-listed this year were choreographer Judith Marcuse, actor Robert Clothier and glass artist Robert Studer.
