Every time he stepped forward to talk, in soliloquy, to the audience [ hoped to learn what drove the dark passions emanating from this twisted nian. Unfortunately, Schaldemose’s quirks extended to a vocal style thar made 20% of anything he said entirely inaudible or incomprehensible. Hoping in vain is a frustrating experience that ultimately leads to rejection! The other major probleni with accessing all that this pro- duction might want to offer is Mark Holden’s Othello. He commands the stage with testosterone but not with emotional truth. It’s a shame because there is not another weak spot in this talented and well- rehearsed ensembie. Neil Gallagher's foolish Rodrigo is a standout and there is excellent work from Alex Zahara as Cassio, Dolly JACK Scarr as Bianca and Leslie Wilson as Emelia. in fairness, | must note that much of the opening night audience was undoubt- edly involved and entertained by Way Off Broadway's approach to this classic, T too was entertained, I would like to have been involved.
