Viake Halloween safe TO MAKE your Halloween as safe as possible, you should be aware of the following safety tips. Wear bright, non-flammable costumes, short enough to avoid tripping. Walk on one side of the street. Don’t wear a mask, instead use make-up. To avoid eye injury parents should supervise their children when putting on eye make-up. Avoid using old make-up, because it can cause an infection in the eye. If a mask is worn make sure the eye holes are very large, and make sure it is secure to avoid slipping. Drivers are asked to watch out for children, and Parents should remind their children to avoid running through bushes or shrubs. Give a flashlight to those going out on their own, not a candle or a lantern. It’s preferable that an adult accompany the children. Go to homes that you know, and remind children never to accept a stranger's invitation inside a home. Stay away from dogs. They may be frightened of the costumes and react aggressively. Don’t let children eat the treats until they have been inspected by an adult. Remember, firecrackers are illegal. In North Vancouver District fireworks are restricted; they cannot be purchased or used until be- tween Oct. 25 to Oct. 31 and can only be sold to peo- ple over the age of 19. In West Vancouver the age limit is 18 years. In North Vancouver City the age limit is also 18, but fireworks must be of a public display, and the person would need written permission from the local fire prevention office. Also someone who has been certified as a fireworks supervisor must be in attendance. 13 - Wednesday, October 29, 1986 - North Shore News “No tricks, Just treats” HALLOWEEN PARTY: Do your Trick or Treating the safe, fun filled way at Cap Mall from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday October 31.
