Norwesters hold grand prix race BRITISH COLUMBIA'S top road race series moves to the North Shore on Sunday, March 24. Over 300 Masters, Senior, and High School runners are expected to compete in the sixth event of the Lower Mainland Grand Prix Race series at Ambleside. . Nor-Westers Track and Field Club, the host organization, has laid out a 10 kilometre course, ‘using a road cirucit and ‘the West Vancouver Sea Wall.. The ‘*Ambleside 10K” has become famous with runners as the tastiest race in the series. Each year, some of the North Shore’s finest res- taurants donate meal vouch- ers for the race organizers to use as spot prizes. Athletes entered in the 1984 race en- joyed gourmet meals courtesy of La Belle Sole, Chesa Restaurant, Troll’s, Canyon Gardens, and other North Shore eateries. David Holtzman, club Race Director, is enthusiastic about the expansion of the Grand Prix series. ‘Each time the series has been expanded to include a new munaicipality, the response has been excellent. It provides .an opportunity for local athletes who have participated in fun runs and other lower level events to raise their sights a little higher, and experience the excitement of competitive running. It can be quite in- spiring for the good amateur athletes to be able to par- ticipate in the same event as world class runners like Geri Fitch and Paul Williams,” he says. Registration for the race is from 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 24 at Ambleside Park. the race si sanctioned by BCAAA. For informa- tion on the event, phone David Holtzman 685-5857 or Liz Allen 985-8517.
