Today's Feature Home isa
34 year old rancher owned
by Bob and Shirley Meltsner
and is centrally located in
the City of North Van-
couver. Four years ago they
bought this house which had
been partially renovated.
Although the carport had
been turned into a very nice
living room with a fireplace,
the rest of the improvements
were more or less cosmetic.

Taking the bull by the
horns, Bob and Shirley
completely redesigned the
interior. One of the
pleasantest rooms is_ the
dining room which is like a
semi-greenhouse and leads
onto a large sundeck. The
deck was built in one mara-
thon of effort with friends
one weekend.

Systematically going
through the house, Bob and
Shirley had hardwood flovrs
installed, built an island in
the kitchen, added new
cabinetry and a Jenn-Aire
range, and cedar-sides the
outside.

To cut down the heating
bill, all the windows were
double-glazed and insulation
blown into the walls.

Other changes were to
convert the old bathroom
and den to make a larger
den. The new bathroom is
still under construction and
will have lots of mirrors and
Italian tiles in “candy apple
ted,” to borrow a phrase
from the auto scene. A
pottery sink is also being
installed.

To finish off the home, the
front yard was landscaped
with bark mulch and attrac-
tive shrubs.
