Maplewood more than ‘malcontents’ | Dear Editor: {am responding to the let ter of Oct. 6 written by Dave Sadler of the quict, sidewalked, neighbourhood of — Roche Point, in which he referred wo people in Maplewood as a “few malcontents.” For the record, the group of individuals I have had the privilege of working with in the Maplewood Community Association and in the Mapfewood Local Plan Committee for almost three years couldn't be more unde- serving of this petty sentiment. More appropriate adjectives would be caring, concerned, passionate, respectful, honest, dedicated and knowledgeable to describe the people of Mapleweod who have con- tributed “countless hours” in the interests of their communi- y. Maplewood has urgent cir- cumstances that cannot allow it * to wait even one more year for the Seymour Local Man to become complete. Yes, we do feel “malcontent” to stand idly by while yet another inappro- priate industry plants itself here in the meantime. We are quite “malcontent” with the odours, noises and general mess, Our school population dectines, and the streets are rarely cleaned, We still don’t have a proper sidewalk on the main road, and daily our children risk their fives to go to and from school. However, “mal- contents” as used in Mr. Sadiler’s context seems a mean- spirited misnomer given the living conditions here. Very soon the Maplewood Local Plan (draft) will go to the public for their considera- tion and input. All constructive ideas and criticisms will be wel- comed, and 1 hope that Mr. Sadler will take the time to- come, partake, and sce what can be accomplished when people with a vision work tiaMcLeod: we. ing: Fiameh ie f Introducing _ the Early ~ Retiremeat |. MacKay-Dunn and the other cvuiicillons who had the fore- sight to rerum the local plan to the Maplewood community as it has always been. Now the opportunity exists for Maplewood to improve its liv- ability, and also provide a vibrant gateway to the rest of Seymour. J.
