TV's all I worry about the tele- vision. No, there’s nothing wrong with the box in our living room. It’s nor fading or crackling or showing the pictures upside down — - nothing like thar. Actually, it’s been pretty good ar bringing us the news and a few views for 20 years, now, Yep, 20 years. We were astonished when the man from the shop where we'd bought it told us its age. He’d had to come around a couple of weeks ago because something in its interior had fallen off or burned out or whatever. Mind you, we did give it a face lift, you could say. From the little that Pye read about the Internet there is an awful lot of stuff going down it that you'd hate to think any child, ler alone your own grandchild, is absorbing. It’s a tierce competitor when it’s stacked up against books. The TV is all about hyp- notizing movement and evervthing is brightly col- ored and the child can be hopelessly infaxuated with it in no time. As weil, it defines the child, in a way — Jimmy always watches Beavis and Butthead and Jimmy says it’s the top so evervone who wants to be Jimmy’s friend has to watch it too.
