Exercise is one of the most
important components of
fracture prevention for ostco-
porosis, Without exercise,
people with osteoporosis run
an increased risk of falls and
fractures.

A regular exercise program
will improve balance and
strengthen bones.

Exercise classes also pro-
vide 3 social outlet which
reduces isolation and
improves mood.

B.C. Women’s Hospital
and Health Centre has recog-
nized the overwhelming
demand for a safe and regulat-
ed community fitness pro-
gram for those suffering fro fom
Osteoporosis.

With financial assistance
from Royal Bank Financial
Group, the hospital has
teamed up with OSTOP,
Osteoporosis Society of B.C.
and — together with a com-
munity advisory group of
individuals with osteoporosis
--- staff members have pooled
their expertise to develop

Osteofit is a complete
exercise program designed
specifically for people with
osteoporosis who are at an
increased risk for fracture or
who may already have had one
or more fractures.

. Unlike regular fitness class-
es, the sessions are small and
individualized. All instructors
have received special training

which exercises are safe and
appropriate for people with
