Inside the restaurant, North
Vancouver resident Bob Grahame,
his wife, young daughter and father
were having dinner at about 6 p.m.
when a restaurant patron calmly
came over.

“She said that it might be a good
idea if you moved away from the
window because there is a guy out
there with a gun,” said Grahame.

“He was just pouring in sweat.
I'll never forget that face. His eyes
were just fierce,” said Grahame.

He described the man's military-
assault garb as nondescript except
for his Canadian-Scottish regiment

At the time the man was arrested,
he had eight rounds in the rifle’s clip
and 50 more rounds in a military
style knapsack.

A search of the man’s Woodcroft
area home produced five rifles. one
of which was loaded, a Joaded 9 mm
semi-automatic handgun, two buyo-
nets and several dozen rounds of
ammunition,

Grahame would like to know
how someone could be able to
stockpile those weapons in a resi-
dence.

“He sort of looked like he would
shoot first... He was really, really
upset at someone or had genuinely
popped his cork,” said Grahame.

West Vancouver Police declined
to release the man’s name. He has a
history of mental illness.

Bomb threats

THE NORTH Shore News is taking seriously three
recent bomb threats.

The threats have been made over the past six months
and have included phone calls concerning a Jetter bomb
and a truck bomb.

The latest threat was on Sunday. A representative of
the local Iranian newspaper received information that
the News wouid be a bombing target. The Iranian news-
paper representative reported the threat to the North
Vancouver RCMP.

Said News operations manager Chris Johnson: “We
take them seriously because we have 100 or more
employees here; however, we do not let (the threats)
interrupt day-to-day operations.”

He said all the threats have included allegations that
the News has insulted the Iranian community.

Johnson said he doesn’t believe the majority of
Iranian community members would cordone bombing
threats. The North Vancouver RCMP are investigating.
