pushed or pulled into an ICBC
Claims facility after suffering at
the nands of their owners or
another motorist. Except for those
relegated to that great scrap yard
in the sky, most ended up at one
of B.C.’s 1,000-plus body shops.
While ICBC does not endorse
specific shops, that choice being
yours to make, our adjusters and
estimators are often asked for tips
on what to look for in a
body shop. In response, we have
prepared some general tips which
have been published in a brochure

Before authorizing repairs to
your vehicle. it is wise to go over
the ICBC estimate with the opera-
tor or a repair person to ensure
that there will be no charges other
than those outlined. This estimate
will set out the parts and paint
work needed and the hourly labor

ICBC will revise the estimate if
the shop finds more damage caus-
ed in the accident. Otherwise,
you’re responsible for any extra
costs.

A well-maintained building with
clean, well-organized reception
and repair shop areas suggests 2
professional approach. Depending
on the work you need done, a
shop should have the following
equipment in order to repair most
vehicles effectively: anchoring
equipment, to hold the vehicle in
place during repairs; pulling
equipment, to straighten autobody
components; vehicle dimension
measuring equipment; MIG (metal
inert gas) welding equipment, to
weld high strength steel; and a
paint spray booth.

Ask the operator to explain any
unfamiliar processes or equipment
recommended for your vehicle.

Allergy symposium scheduled

AN ALLERGY symposium for
health care professionals will be
held in Vancouver on Saturday,
April 13.

Sponsored by the B.C. Society
of Allergy and immunology and
the Allergy Information Associa-
tion, the one-day symposium will
be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
in the Meridien Hotel.

Guest speakers will address the
topics of asthma, chronic rhinitis,
sick building syndrome, cutaneous
manifestation of allergic disease
and food allergy.
