WEST VANCOUVER Towers developer motives questioned Dear Editor: As your page 3 piece on Friday, Nov. 11 made clear, West Van- couver’s outgoing council has been tushing ahead with unseemly haste to do the bidding of Newcorp in connection with the Twin Towers, and has apparently spent $500,000 of the taxpayers’ money in the process, even as the election cam- paign was running and without waiting for the will of the people in the referendum. This is particularly strange since Newcorp had already waived the conditions precedent with which council was rushing to comply — and stranger still since council had you. Can it be that someone was try- ing to push this project so far ahead that the hands of the incom- ing council will be so tied that they are forced to proceed even if the people are against it? — and they are. Even if the majority were to favor highrises for the site, that would not necessarily mean that they favor the ugly Newcorp pro- posal, which has been universally rejected. The Newcorp lawsuit timing was also interesting.
