12 - Friday, February F Argyle condos get nod A THREE-STOREY, !1- unit condominium has been approved for 2196 Argyle Ave., despite objections from West Vancouver Ald. Mark Sager. “*F am totally oppased to this upzoning, and [ have concerns about the park improvements that are to go along with it,’ Sager said, as West Vancouver District Council approved a development permit for R. E. International of Canada Feb. 1. In conjunction with the new building, the developers plan to improve the small park just to the west, providing an upper level for those unwilling to continue down to the seawalk below. Sager said the general public would be discouraged from using the park, because it would appear to belong to the adjacent con- dominium building. ‘*The building is too overpower- ing where it borders on the park,’* wrote concerned Argyle resident George Sebastian. But in the previous Monday night council meeting, associate architect Leif Anderson | said, “Yes, the park does present itself as an extension of the building and the residents wiil benefit from it. Bu: the park also addresses a lot of the concerns of local people." Anderson explained that the up- per level of the park would "be more accommodating to’ elderly people who don’t wish to continue down to the seawalk. “I don’t think the impact of the building will be overwhelming, he Sager thought the development . should have been restricted to two duplexes and called the [!-unit proposal an ‘“‘upzoning.’* “Tt is presently zoned for high- rise apartments but does not quali- fy for development due to insuffi- cient lot width,"’ said Bob Heaslip of the municipality’s planning department. “The owner might be able to acquire enough land to build a high rise,’ warned district planner Steve Nicholls. A number of area ‘residents were concerned about increased zoning inthe area, ~ “fT -etty scon we'll be looking at. the sky to sec daylight,’” remarked 22nd Street resident Len Wannop. Sager’s distaste over the plan tesukted pastially from his disap- pointment in failed negotiation: between the developers and owners of this and another property that might have allowed municipal ac- quisition of prime park land on the waterfront. What has changed is that the flood gates of evil have been thrown open and those who stand strong for righteousness and right to life cannot retreat in our cause!!! We must stand with renewed commitment to the Word of God and be determined to continue to cry out in defense of the unbom. God forbid that we do nothing as some of these innocent viciims are used for experimentation in laboratories, or as a means of supply of organs for transplants, of as a source of tallow in some cosmetic products. This is the hour we must pray to God for the strength and power to stand against the evil tide sweeping our nation! We must call upon those we know who are like-minded to awake from their state of apathy and lethargy to join us in the fight for life and assist us in our battle against those who want to destroy the lives of precious, tiny unborn babies. And, after prayer, we must never surrender to defeat. But, we must “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might, and having done all, to stand, we must stand therefore, ...” (Eph. 6:10-14), AGAINST ABORTION!
