Teachers Federation action to protest letters of reprimand remaining in teachers’ files in two B.C. school districts. North Vancouver Teachers Association president Andy Krawezyk said last Wednesday the action by North Vancouver's 900 teachers would continue until the letters of reprimand in the school districts have been lifted. Krawezyk added that he suspected the situation would be resolved soon. But North Peace River school trustees voted unanimously Sunday against withdrawing letters to about 150 teachers who took part in the walkout. BCTF vice-president Alan Crawford subsequently flew to Fort St. John Tuesday to meet with North Peace River teachers in an attempt to resolve the situation. Letters of reprimand were plac- ed in teachers’ files by school boards in Peace River North, Fort Nelson, Lillooet, Nanaimo and Golden following the April 28 province-wide walkout Ly teachers protesting the legislation contained in Bill 20, the Teaching Profession Act. Golden trustees were scheduled to meet Tuesday night to vote on removal of the letters. School boards in Lillooet and Nanaimo agreed to withdraw the letters shortly after the BCTF voted Aug. 28 to continue the campaign until the punitive action had been withdrawn. The Nelson school board voted Sunday to remove the letters. Though District 44 teachers joined the rest of the province's teachers in the instruction-only campaign, teachers in West Van- couver’s District 45 voted not to participate. Coordinator of athletics for North Shore secondary schools Len Corben said Thursday school sports would not iaitially be af- fected by continuation of the in- struction-only campaign, ‘‘because there is no league competition in the first two weeks.” But Corben said there would be problems if the campaign con- tinued into October. All spring school sports events, including the North Shore second- ary school track meet, were cancelled on the North Shore after the instruction-only campaign began April 29. District 44’s superintendent of schools Dr. Leo Marshall had said Thursday he was optimistic the campaign would be over soon. He said damage to both students and school staff could then be kept to a minimum, “Tt (the campaign) is extremely divisive,’’ Marshall said, ‘and something we should be without.” BCTF spokesman Arnie Myers said Tuesday Crawford would report to the BCTF Jate Tuesday ight. ‘and we hope the situation van be resalved then.” ADJACENT TO SKE LIFTS Park undercover and you're only steps away front the Lifts, gourmet resctu rats, convenience stores, likes, parks and tennis for vear round enjoyment, TOWNHOUSE STYLE FOR QUIET PERSONAL ENJOYMENT HighPotnte ts a 2 storey townhouse stvle development with no acigbbours abose or below thus casuring your quiet personat enjoyment hack unit includes an undercover parking. stall, covered access to your front door, private cutertiinment sized patio sundeck and vear cound storage locker, phis biesele and sadbourd storage acca and laundry fire ilities.
