Dec. 31 will begin quietly, at noon Greenwich time, when citi- zens of every nation, regardless of religious or philosophical beliefs, set aside one hour for thoughts of peace, in whatever form they choose: prayer, meditation or con- templation. This idea was in- troduced in 1984 by John Price, in his book, The Planetary Commis- sion. Organizers say this will set the tone for a day of music and cele- bration, Events, large and small, will add their own local flavor to the global theme of peace and co- operation. Festivities will climax at mid- night Greenwich time, with a global candle-lighting cer¢mony. The simple act of passing a flame from person to persou, candle to candle as a symbo! of friendship and hope will take place in towns, cities and villages around the Bowen Island woman helps world peace cause EVENTS LINKED Pians are underway to link the major events of the day by interac- tive satellite video with portions incorporated into a global radio and television simulcast.
