ec Deed EATING DISORDERS have increased dramatically over the last decade, especially among teenage girls. These disorders will be the subject of a free lecture at Carson Graham Secondary School on April 16. The lecture will be given by Ronald Manley, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist. Dr. Manley’s talk is a featured part of the spring program of North Shore Continuing Education. The spring offerings are described in a new brochure that will be delivered to every home in North and West Vancouver during the week of March 19. In his lecture, Dr. Manley will pay particular attention to two disorders. Anorexia nervosa is characterized by feeling fat even if emaciated. Bulimia results in binge eating followed by self- induced vomiting or abuse of taxatives and diuretics. The Manley lecture is one of a number of free lectures to be sponsored by North Shore Continuing Education this spring. A wide variety of other courses are also of- fered. These activities have been scheduled for Sunday afternoons April 8 and May 6. Some of the new general interest courses include Anke Crowhurst’s course on mak- ing wrinkle-faced apple dolls; Edith * Capik’s lessons on making international desserts such as Hungarian hazelnut torte and French petit fours and John Lewis’ introduction to coaching in all sports, Coaching Theory Level 1. George Foster, a freelance cartoonist whose work ap- pears in the U.S. Navy’s flight safety magazine, will be teaching the basics of car- toon drawing. A speciaF English course in the kitchen is being offered for new Canadians by English-as-a-second- language instructor Janet Holland.
