36 - Wednesday, August 1, 1990 - North Shore News FOOD Sticky ribs are sure to please COOKING FOR two has a few benefits. I can experi- ment on small quantities of food and if things go wrong I haven’t ruined dinner for five — and Brian doesn’t mind emergency bacon and eges. Here’s an experiment that went right. One daughter dropped in unexpectedly, just as these ribs were grilling and, naturally, stayed for dinner. She, too, thought they were great. Sticky Ribs This sauce was sufficient for six, six-inch racks of baby ribs (sweet-and-sour cut), about 1%- inch wide. For more, double the sauce would be sufficient for three times the quantity of ribs. Ys cup table molasses % cup apple-lime juice (you could use plain apple but add a tabie- spoon of lemon or lime juice) 2 teaspoons granulated garlic 2 tablespoons soy sauce My molasses was quite thick so I warmed the mixture slightly in the microwave. Wisk the ingre- dients together until well blended and marinate ribs for several hours, turning often. Grill over hot coals, basting frequently with the sauce. Watch them — they burn. If the sauce catches fire the heat carmelizes the sugar and removes the sweet taste. zs *& If you’ve just bought a carton of apple-lime juice to use in the previous recipe, here’s what we do with it and the reason you'll find it in most McCreadie refrigerators on 2 regular basis: Fill a big glass half full of ice.
