There were sixteen teams entered in the three day event, with teams outside the lower mainland coming from Seattle, Edmonton and ~*~ Alaska. The West Van team recorded two shutouts during the? tournament, blanking Newton 3-0 in their opener, then shutting out Burnaby Minor 1-0, before outlasting the host club, Seafair, 7-5 to reach the finals. The West Van _ team’s performance was of par- ticular note considering only nine skaters were available for the tournament, giving them ° o forward lines and three defencemen, and getting only a 90 minute break from their previous game before playing in the final. Bears, the defending champions from 1979 kept pressure on Big Bird throughout the match, but a first half goal off the head of Brian Acaster from a corner kick was the difference. Both teams produced end to end action throughout the match, but the first half goal stood up and the Big Bird Sound de-throned Bears for the title.
