MIKE Antone isn’t
budging from his dead
father’s home.

The 29-year-old native carver has
been living in the house on North
Vancouver's Chief Jimmy Harry
Drive with his wife Brenda-Lee and
son Michael for more than a year.

But a dispute with his father’s
common-law widow has ted to an
eviction notice issued by the
Squamish Nation band council,
which legally administers the strip of
native land just east of the Highway
1 approach to the Second Narrows
Bridge.

“I’m not going to go anywhere
-— it’s not just me that’s going to be
arrested, it’s my whole family,” said
Antone laste Wednesday morning.
“That (going to jail) doesn’: bother
me. It’s not like I'm going to dic,
it ll just be for a couple of days and
the house will still be here to fight

A 26-year-old Squamish woman was sen-
tenced to six years in jail for the killing

of aman in 1993.

Tammy Tyna Berezowski sat with her head down on her
lap, crying frequently during day-long sentencing, proceed-
ings before North Vancouver provincial court Judge Ellen

Burdett.

Berezowski pleaded guilty last Dee. F7 to manslaughter in
connection with the death of Bakhatawar Singh Parmar, 41.

A tearful Ber i was asked to spe. ak by the judge
before the jai! sentence was announced.

Sait Berezowsha, “Pd like to say sorry to the Parmar fam-
ily. That's all.”

man’s wite were in the courtroom. They remained unmoved
when Berezowski_ apologized. One of Berezowski’s sisters
cried loudly after Rerezowski spoke. Berezowski's two sisters
and four other supporters were in the courtroom,

Parmar was a BC Rail worker who iived in Prince G
He was working with a rail crew in Squamish when he died on
Nav. 17, 19 death was initiafly ruled an accidental

On Wednesday Crown lawyer Mark Levitz said that police
reopened the case after aman came forward with information
in 1996. The man told Squamish Mounties that after a sexu-
ab encounter with Berezowski, she told him in detail about
events leading to a man’s death.

A police undercover investigation was started in’ carly
1997. Berezowski believed she was selling stolen cigarettes
and transporting illegal deugs with tough career criminals in
the undercover sting.

She was videotaped and audio recorded speaking to an
undercover Mountie. She concocted stories about Parmar,
saving that he committed violent crimes against: her nd
and that she killed him for retribution. There was no evidence
