a golf professional in his native
Austin, Texas he helped countless
individuals — be they beginners or

_ professionals — better their game
- before his death on April 2 at the age

of 90.

quickly became the best-selling
sports book ever. But sadly, as is
often the case, his was not a house-
hold name until just after his death. It
was fitting that one of his students,
Ben Crenshaw, came to him for some
quick advice to prepare for the
upcoming Masters tournament.

Crenshaw, often referred to as the
best putter on the professional tour,
learned something as within a matter
of days he went from being a pall-
bearer at his mentor’s funeral to
slinging on the green jacket bestowed
upon the winner of the prestigious
tournament.
