THE NORTH Vancouver
Chamber of Commerce received
the B.C. Chamber of Commerce
Award for first place in recogni-
tion of its efforts to promote the
chamber during Chamber of
Commerce Week 1993 for com-
munities with a population over
75,000.

The award was accepted by
president-elect John Lakes of the
North Vancouver law firm Lakes,
Straith and Bilinsky.

The chamber put on a variety
of events during the chamber of
commerce week including semi-
nars, speaking engagements and
their participation in the annual
Duck Dance, with proceeds going
to the North Shore Services Socie-
ty.

The North Vancouver Chamber
of Commerce represents close to
700 businesses and is involved
with issues related to economic
development, transportation,
education, the environment and
tourism.

Mary Collins, the minister of
western economic diversification,
recently announced details of the
Innovative Partnerships initiative
(IPI), a new program designed to
build innovative private and
public sector partnerships
dedicated to increasing energy ef-
ficiency.

“The {Innovative Partnerships
Initiative will create broad-based
networks of partners who have a
stake in increasing energy effi-
ciency in its many forms.

“The IPI is the right kind of
initiative for the 1990s. It’s a way
for the government to continue
taking action to meet economic
prosperity and Green Plan goals,
while at the same time working
within the financial constraints we
face,’’ said Collins.

She added that the IPI’s 32.
partners include companies quali-
fied to do energy efficiency
uperading for the federal govern-
ment, major Canadian utilities
and financial institutions.
