Italian designer to open

WELL-KNOWN ITALIAN
ladies’ wear designer
Tristano Onofri, now work-
ing in Germany, is opening
his first Canadian boutique
in Vancouver next August.

Onofri, who has quickly ex-
panded in the last year, is well
known throughout Europe for his
women’s clothing, skincare and
perfume lines.

He recently opened stores in
Taipei and Hong Kong, and he
will open a shop in Los Angeles in
1994,

Since Canada js the third largest

‘“-non-Evropean importer of Ger-
man garments, the firm expects to
do well here.

A gale dinner reception was
held last month to introduce the
designer and his work to the Van-
couver press. But the public will
have to wait until the Onofri
boutique opens in August.

The new store will be run by
Maria Satt, Vancouver’s Milan
Boutique ‘owner, who currently

B.C. designer awards

A LARGE fashion trade show
and design contest called the 1993
British Columbia Designer of the
Year Awards will be held at the
Kamloops Exhibition Centre on
March 10 and 11.

Fashion Ovations is the title
given to the production, which
will showcase both new and estab-
lished B.C. designers. Several
high-profile members of the fash-
ion industry will be judging the
awards, including representatives
of Women's Wear Daily and Flare
magazine.

Organizers say the event will
“blow the socks off any Van-
couver production and put that ci-
ty on the fashion map.”*
