SELECTING THE RIGHT FERTILIZER
Fertilizer comes in many formulae trom a large number of manufacturers and
sometimes presents a confusing picture to you, the gardener. Simply remambering the
meaning of the identifying numbers wil! help. They aré always in the same order,
Nitrog en-Phasphorus-Potash, or N-P-K. Lawns require more Nitrogen, and you should
use a 12-4-8 formula in the spring and something like 18-6-12 or 20-10-5 in the warmer
weather. Almost without exception flowering broad feaved evergreens (Rhodos,
Azaleas, Camellias, ete.) need the reverse combination, and the tvo common ones are
4-12-8 of 4-12-10 {ihe latter is twice as strong as the former). Some people get the all
purpose 6-8-6 for everything, but you will get better results if you use the proper plant
nutrients.
