re is 24 ~- Sunday, July 9, 1989 - North Shore News COLLEGE FOR JAPANESE STUDENTS East and West meet THE RECENTLY opened Cana- dian International College held an open house June 24 in North Van- couver. Students prepared and offered displays about their academic pro- gram, community ticld experiences and cultural and recreational activ- ities. Modern-day Japan was in strong evidence in the gym. The student band contributed rock music and martial arts were dem- onstrated by students. To illustrate traditional Japan, portrait drawing, Japanese calligraphy and fortune telling were done in the cafeteria for guests. Students and guests par- ticipated in a traditional tea cere- mony and Ikebana Japanese flower arranging. Several students gave speeches about the cultural differences be- tween Japan and Canada. The Home Visit House informed interested community members about the coliege’s host program. In the program, college students spend one weekend a month in local homes to thare in Canadian B&B the way to go in La Conner From pege 23 Enough said. Do not schedule a visit to La Conner, during the surcmer, without a reservation. We did and ended up staying in the Travel Lodge in Mount Ver- non. Our friends got a room on the second floor with hot-and-cold running travellers outside the door. We got the ground floor with hot-and-cold running pipes — every toilet that flushed on the up- per floor announced itself through our wall.
