Jeyaseelan won the under-12 single event at the 12th snnual Pepsi Junior Championship, defeating the number two seeded player, Martina Nejedly of Rich- mond, 6-1, 7-5. The United States Tennis Association-sanctioned tourna- ment was held Nov. 13 to 15 at the Seattle Tennis Centre and drew the best juniors across Washington, Oregon, B.C. and Alberta. On. the semi-finals, the top-seed- ed Jeyaseelan beat the number one ranked Tasha Jackson of Cregon in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.: Jackson was seeded number four in this tournament. Most recently, Jeyaseelan won the under-16 single championship at the 8th Annual Boeing Fall Junior Championship tournament held in Kent, Wash., beating Madeleine Chang of Seattle 6-1, 6-0 for the title. Tro weeks earlier, Jeyaseelan had won the under-18 singles and doubles championships in this tournament. “Last year at 10 years old Sonya won both the under-12 and -14 singles championships.
