Local pirates can search for the treasure this Father’s Day at the fun-filled and exciting Horseshoe Bay Day that promises to have something for everyone. A parade, boat rides, dog show, dancing, choirs and the pirate treasure hunt bring this annual family event to life, day organizers explained last week. “It's really growing to be quite an event,” said organizer Ingrid Fischer. Starting with the recent revitalization of the Horseshoe Bay waterfront, the event has evolved to a day of family fun that prom- ises to be the best ever. Capt. George Vancouver, the honorary Expo celebrity, will be the day’s master of ceremonies — with a twist. “We actually rename him in honor of the day,”’ explain- Chris Adshead. (George) Horse- ed organizer **He'll be Capt. shoe Bay."* A hidden pouch will hold the key to the treasure hunt prize of a brand-new mountain bike; actors dressed as pirates will be roaming around the treasure hunt area to add some fun and swordplay to the youngsters’ quest for booty. Costumes are optional for the participants of the treasure hunt. “It’s dress up if you want to or come as you are if you prefer,” Fischer explained. Events going on throughout the afternoon include the Maplewood Farms petting zoo, artists’ displays, balloons and a raffle of prizes donated by merchants. Provincial speaker and West Vancouver MLA John Reynolds will speak following the parade; North Vancouver MP Mary Col- lins and West Vancouver acting mayor Ald. Salmon fry will be released from Sewell’s Marina and a marina worker will be on hand to answer any questions on the salmon release or local salmon stock. Dog show entries are open to dogs of all types and are not limited to the more proper breeds — house pets of any variety are allowed in the show. Show entry forms and information are available at the Paw Prints store in Horseshoe Bay. Horseshoe Bay Day begins June 21 with a parade at 11:30 a.m. and runs to 5 p.m. with a host of fun- filled family events during the day. The dog show starts at | p.m.; the treasure hunt is from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. DEEP COVE'’S King Neptune Days kick off this weekend and the annual event is to feature all the usual attractions and activi- ties proven popular in the past. King Neptune's festi- val-stariag parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and_ will make its way down to Cates Park, where the two days of fun-filled events kick off. Joining the parade will be a group of toddlers. Complete with small floats and colored wagons, the toddlers will accompany the parade on its final segment. Once at the park, parade wat- chers can dig into a collection of family events that have been put together for all ages. entertainment events throughout the day.
