B4 - Friday, April 27, 1984 - North Shore News EEsport First time NS sports medicine course offered FOR THE first time since the Provincial Sports Aid pro- gram incepuion a year ago, North Shore residents will be offered this Core Course in Athletic Injury Care. The first program will be offered on Saturday, May $ from 9-§ p.m. at the West Vancouver Recreation Centre on 21st and Marine. Interested par- ties should pre-register by April 27 The Sports Aid Program 1s highly applicable to anyone involved in sport, fitness or recreational activities and who is concerned about the safety and well being of the participants The course as designed to further knowledge in the popularly growing discipline of Sports Medicine To date, the course has been running one year with 1,400 B.C residents having completed st The Sports Aid Program consists of a Core Course and four speciality modules. Tap- ing Strength and Flexibility. First Atd and Cardio- pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Courses have been developed by the Sport Medicine Council of BC tor the Core Course, Taping module and Strength and Flexibility module Recognizing that good tons ltabolye a \ MORREY First Aid and CPR are already courses offered by a number of agencies, new courses have not been developed in these areas. Sports Aiders can complete these two modules by taking recognized courses available in the community The Core Course must be taken prior to the Taping and Strength and Flexibility Modules. The entire course is voluntary, so it is obviously not mandatory to complete all tive Courses The courses do comple ment one another, however, and together provide a well rounded coverage eal the topic, so completion of the enuire: program is stronylys encouraged The Course to be ottered at the West Van Ree Centre is a one day session that con sists oof tecture, demon.
