IT WAS quite a weekend at Whistler as Steve
Podborski, the only Canadian and North
American to win a World Cup downhill title,
hung them up. Podborski is pictured on the left
following his last run while the centre picture
shows one of the airborne racers on the difficult
course. And of course, Bill Johnson, the brash
young American, holds his trophy aloft, silenc-
ing his many critics who said he couldn’t ski well
enough to handle Whistler.
