Gallagher - added that’ the increases in tuition fees and the raising of:academic- en- trance standards at the University of B.C. and Simon Fraser ‘University are expected to. result in about 1,000 > fewer admissions this - September. , - The; pressure to take up that slack will fall on the four Lower Mainland colleges — Vancouver Community Col-— lege, Douglas College, Kwantien College and Capilano. ‘*We're tooling up for as many as 300 more applica- tions (than in the past) and that could be as many as $00,’’ Gallagher said. -The Capilano principal says that the college is look- ing at ways to retain the quality of education while admitting more students into two-year university programs. At the same time, he said, the college is committed to keeping the current mix of high school graduates, mature students and others. The college will also not change its standards for ad- mission, he said.
