By CHRIS LLOYD The ‘letters to the editor’ column appears to be becoming the new channel for North Vancouver District council members both present and past to vent their accusations against one another. Alderman Ernie Crist's letter to the News - featured front page February 6 - was written as an open letter accusing Mayor Don Bell of “playing God” by hushing up .he dangers of chlorine spills facing the area and not making public a consultants’ report on the subject. Now the News received another open letter, im which former District alderman Marilyn Baker has issued a scathing attack on Crist for his action. Her letter accuses him of “playing games” with “political one-upmanship” in “an attempt to create the illusion of leadership with slurs and innuendos” which she calls “unwarranted, damaging and _irrespon- sible.” And in a reference to George Orwell's Animal Farm she talks of Crist’s “swinish wallowing in visions of Big Brother.’ has ‘MISTAKE’ Baker's final jab 1s that whereas she supported Crist’s candidacy last year, “after only two months I'm beginning to think I made a mistake.” She calls his action “shooting from the lip” and says it leaves her to conclude “that it is more important to OPEN TODAY, SUNDAY 10-5 JEANS Boot cut and continental | North Vancouver Sizes 28-40 Slight imperfections will not affect wear G.W.G. She says that as an alderman Crist has direct access to the report. Baker also defends Mayor Bell for not overruling A decision made by the majority of council members not to publicise the report.
