Some work on the hull of the vessel owas contracted oul to a North Vancouver company. The sub‘s sister ship Odyssey | is operating in) St. Maarten, Netherland Aniifles. Fhe battery- powered, free-swimming subs take tourists to depths of up to 150 feet. The crafts are capable of a maximum speed of three knots, either submerged or on the surface and can move sideways, vertically and pivot on their axis. The sub tested locally took about nine months to build, at a cost of $3.5 million. On the recent trip into Indian Arm, — ‘‘tourists’’ peering through large portholes 150 feet below sea level were treated to a mix of Bob Marley and New Age music piped in over a P.A. and a flood-lit underwater scene defined dy turbid water and the sporadic appearance of smallish jellyfish. The Ody I] was financed by, and will be owned and operated by, the Indonesian com- pany Pt. Submarine Safaris Asia.
