In Europe the night is known for its bewitching qualities and high spirited merrymaking. This year, the North Vancouver Arts Council and Lonsdale Quay Market introduce their own version of bewitchment with a Free Family Dance followed by the first ever Lantern Parade. These Friday night events are designed to kick off the Lower Lonsdale Community Celebration Day, scheduled for Saturday June 21st. Everyone can be a part of che upcoming festivals. To light up the night with your own lantern come to a Lantern Making Demonstration on Saturday May 17th from 10:30am-12:30pm in the Quay Rotunda. If I you're excited by what you see, you can register for a Lantern Making # Workshop (see Quay Events for times and dates). The cost of the workshop is $7.00 per person, and if you make two lanterns and leave one behind, you will receive a refund of $3.50. Bring your finished lantern to the the Quay Friday, June 20th for a evening of super fun and illuminating good times. Come early and join in on our Free Community Dance Party on the Harbour Deck, from 7:30 - 8:30pm. Bandleader Marian Rose, will lead the crowd through a foot- stompin’ program designed to appeal to kids from 4 to 84! Then at 9:00pm, everyone will assemble for the Lantern Parade. Starting from the Harbour Deck at Lonsdale ‘Quay Market, this assembly of light will march along the seawall at Waterfront Park and then back to the Quay. The next day, Saturday, June 21st, the Lower Lonsdale Community Action Network invites you to come out and celebrate the unique spirit and history of the Lower Lonsdale area with the 3rd annual “Lower Lonsdale Community Celebration Day”. Start out with a stroll down Lonsdale from Esplanade for a chance to view inspiring local artisans and crafts people displaying their talents. Once at the Seven Seas parking lor (at the foot of Lonsdale), join in the fun as community groups host activities and games for the whole family. Continue on to the Lonsdale Quay Harbour Deck for a full day of entertainment. You'll enjoy favourites like juggler; Spanky the Prankster, family entertainer; Claire deLune and puppeteer, William K. Wiskers. Also, don't miss the vintage car display on the ICBC promenade. (Access from street level or the third level of Lonsdale Quay market.) And if that isn’t enough, che next day, Sunday June 22nd, come to Lonsdale Quay Market for a multiculeural entertainment jour- ney around the world. Dancers and musicians perform from 12pm - 4:00pm on the harbour deck as part of the 23rd annual Folkfest.
