Former WV
mayor dies

FORMER WEST Van-
couver mayor Alex Forst is
remembered as a kind and
popular man who gave a
great deal to the com-
munities in which he lived
and worked.

Mr. Forst, who died at the age
of 88 on Nov. 24, was first elected
as a West Vancouver District
councillor in 1957, He served
through 1961 before he was
elected reeve by acclamation in
1961. He held that post until 1967,
when the position was re-named
mayor. He continued to hold it
until 1969. ;

Mr. Forst's son David was just
a teenager when his father became
mayor, but he says the shift fram
reeve made no difference
