y METRO LEAGUE Burnaby downs soccer Rovers IN VANCOUVER Metro Senior Soccer League division one action, the West Van Rovers were downed 2-1 by Bumaby Heights United in a hard-fought contest. Burnaby’s Sante Torrelli opened the scoring just before the halfway mark when he collected a goaipost rebound and buried it behind Rovers keeper Roger Agyagos. With Rovers pressing in the se- cond half, Burnaby managed to go up to two goals on an effort from Gord Sanders. It wasn’t until late in the game that Rovers were finally able to find the mark off a beautifully ex- ecuted free kick from Burnaby’s 18-yard line. Midfielder Steve Maddess chip- ped the defensive wall to a rushing Mike Allina who futl-volleyed the ball into the back of the net. Rovers fullbacks Andrew Shill- ington and Craig Mitchell both had strong performances in a game full of hard knocks and late tackles.
