Having outgrown the current
premises, Seif-Counsel Press is
moving to 1481 Charlotte Rd. near
Mountain Highway and Main at
the end of January.

With $2.5 million annual retail
sales, the company handles
Canada-wide distribution and has
distributed in the U.S. through
Tab Books Inc. of Pennsylvania
since 1982.

Co-founders Diana Douglass,
daughter of Douglas & Mcintyre’s
Jim Douglas, and lawyer Jack
James literally took a hands-on
approach in cobbling together the
firm.

“At one point | was actually do-
ing’ paste-ups in the kitchen,
holdin, the pages up to a single
electric light bulb,’’ said company
president Diana Douglas. :

A HOME insulation revolution has
quietly been unfolding around us
and new North Shore homes are
beginning to reap the benefits of a
new R-2000 approved insulation
system developed by Don Thom-
son, a building consultant with
Plasti-Fab Ltd.

The thermo-lock wall insulation
system ties together wall framing
and home insulation into a one-
phase proposition. The method in-
corporates expanded polystyrene
foam — the same stuff used to
nmiake foam coffee cups. The
system consists of a factory cut
panel of insulation locked together
by joints which act as a framing
table into which the studs and
plates are fitted.

“It’s better than the conven-
tional strapped wall or double wall
framing. It’s the casiest way to
build an energy efficient home,”
said system designer Thomson.

Thomson sold the Canadian
manufacturing and marketing
rights for the system to Plasti-Fab
and says the new approach has
generated worldwide interest since
its introduction to the market eight
months ago.

To spread the system further
afield Thomson’s Anchorage,
Alaska based Thermo Structures
Inc. recently merged with Van-
couver Stock Exchange listed
Newline Resources Ltd., owners of
Superstud, a lightweight, in-
sulated, composite building stud.
