Canada’s first international trade show on food and wine in B.C. Place Stadium has been des- ignated an international exhibition zone, free of taxes on products consumed on the site. The special exemption announc- DOC, while only six have been awarded DOCG status. Four DOCG wines will be of- fered for tasting in the $,400 sq. ft. Italian pavilion at the fair. Includ- ed are two great Piedmont DOCG reds. The exemption allows Italy, the world’s largest wine producer, to offer tastes of the finest stock in the collection of the Enoteca ltalica Permanente (Association of Italian Vintage Wines). The Enoteca, based in Siena, Tuscany, is the principal repre- sentative of the Italian wine export industry and is responsible for the promotion of quality and special- ty wines. Under a quality control system established in 1963 by the Italian government,the two top classifica- tions are Denominatione di Origine Controllata (D.O.C.) for specific grape types from a specific area, aged as required by law, and the top ranking Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (D.O.C.G.) that attests to gov- ernment guarantee of quality.
