Summer study

A 310.000 sewer-study grant
has been approved for the
District of North Vancouver.

The grant will be used for
a study to determine infiltra-
tion quantities and the con-
dition of sewers in the area,
tributary to the Birchlynn
Place Sewer life station,
Municipal Affairs minister
Bill Ritchie, North Van-
Seymour MLA Jack Davis
and North Van-Capilano
MLA Angus Ree recentiy
announced.

A FIRST year student at
Capilano College was one of
only 13 students in Canada
to achieve a perfect score on
the University of Waterloo’s
Sir Isaac Newton Physics
Scholarship Exam.

Grant Firby, a North
Shore resident and student in
the Scientific Computing
Applications Technology
(SCAT) program is now
eligible for a University of
Waterloo scholarship valued
at up to $7,000.

5,068 students from across
Canada wrote the exam, in-
cluding six from Capilano
_ College. The average score
of the Cap students was 30.3
out of a possible 52, com-
pared to an overall national
average of only 12.8.

Another first year SCAT
student, Ali Motami, was
this year’s recipient of the T.
Buck Suzuki Scholarship
awarded to the student
completing a first year
science program at Capilano
with the highest grade point
average. The scholarship is
worth $500.

relating to improvement or
construction of municipal
water and sewer facilities.

The grants cover 100 per
cent of the first $5,000 of
approved casts and 50° per
cent of approved costs over
$5,000, to a maximum of
$10,000.

ject,"’ Ritchie said.
