Everyone loves a party

PARTY TIME for kids can mean one big
headache for Mum, not to mention agonies of
nerves over whether the dozen or so assembled
eight year olds will gush over the rented clown
and goo over the bunny shaped cake, or whether
they’li turn up all 12 eight year old noses at
Mom?’s childishness.

For people looking for simple party ideas that
will take some of the angst out of entertaining for
children (and adults) two helpful books are
available locally.

Party Secrets for Super
Moms is written by _ self-
confessed party lover and
mother Jackie Knazan of
West Vancouver. Her advice
is to keep. kid’s parties
simple, spending a lot more
imagination than money.

Knazan suggests themes-
-with costumes, favors,
games and even food con-
forming to the central
theme--as the way to ensure
SUCCESS.

A firefighter party, for
instance, would include in-
vitations decorated like fire
engines, a trip to the local
fire station (arranged in
advance), upside-down
firemen’s hats to hold chips,

red licorice ‘fire hoses’ for
straws and a fire-truck cake.
The recipe, and directions
for making the cake are
included.

Games would include a
Fire Alarm Race, with
firefighters racing to rescue a
burning house (lego or
cardboard) and a Fireman’s
drill--another race where
each player races to a pile of
gear (rain slicker, boots, hat)
and tries to put it on before
the other players have passed
around and all rung a
‘firebell’.

Ann Herbert
Paton, this book is separated
into three categories,
children’s, family, and
adult’s parties. Main themes
are again suggested, and this
book even separates themes
into age groups. Four to
eight year olds would have
Winnie the Pooh, Safan,
and Turtle parties, while

ages eight to ten might enjoy
