BS - Sunday, December 18, 1983 - North Shore News Cantata comes FRESH FROM an acclaimed concert of Christmas music at the Orpheum, the Van- couver Cantata Singers, one of Canada’s foremost choral ensembles, comes to West Vancouver for the first time to sing a delicious concert of Christmas carols, old and new. The programme opens with festive works by two great Venetian choral masters and proceeds with interesting and unusual settings of well- known and not so well- known carols and spirituals celebrating events surroun- ding the birth of Christ. The Gloria in Excelsis Deo from Danie! Pinkham’s glittering and rarely heard Cuhristmas Cantata, written in 1957 and inspired by the music of Gabrieli, closes the concert. The fifty-voice Vancouver Cantata Singers are directed to W. Van by the well-known choral conductor and lyric tenor, James Fankhauser.
