BS - Wednesday, October 5, 1983 - North Shore News EE sport Windsor and Argyle dominate soccer WINDSOR AND Argyle are the teams to beat in high school senior boys soccer, at least this early in the season. Windsor had won three games, tied one and lost none, at News presstime, while Argyle had won twice and tied once. While soccer teams battled it out at the senior and in- termediate levels last week, junior, juvenile and bantam rugby began for the season. Senior boys rugby is not played in the fall. Mean- GSL FOOTBALL ACTION THE SECOND WEEK of GSL football provided as much excitment as the open- ing games. In the Jr. Bantam division the Esks defeated the Vikings 27-0 for their first win of the season. John Sedcacek lead the scoring with three T.D.’s and Sean Sarson scored the other. Q.B. George Morin had a strong game and slot- back Enc Hofstedt made many excellent blocks. Outstanding defensive play by Neil Fraser, Ramon Alex- ander and David Liomas stymied the Vikings potent offense. In the Flagball division the Rockets, led by Q.B. Chris Hancock, defeated the Knights in a close fought game 19-12. Strong defensive play came from both Han- cock and Kris Henry of the Rockets while Anthony Alvaro led the Knights defense. Q.B. Paul Kaiser answered with both majors for the Knights. In other Esks grab big win flagball play the Panthers defeated the Warriors 12.0. The Minor division saw Q.B. Beau Payne run for one T.D. and passed for 30 yards to Sipho Riopel, 70 yards to Darren Nott and 50 yards to Scott Macey for the other majors. A safety tackle by Mandla_ Riopel concluded their sconng in a 27-6 win over the Jets. The Spartons defeated the Lions 20-0 with strong offen- sive play from Cam Chalmers, Marc Hutchinson, John Mauraki, Mike Mohan and Jeff Chalmers. The Bantam division saw the Falcons win their first game of the season on excep- tionally strong defensive play by Mike Wild who scored the only T.D. on an interception. Solid play by Mike Horvath and Mark Menchions_ en- sured the Falcons 90 win aver the Titans. In other Bantam play the Patnots blanked the Colts 12-0 in a hard fought victory. In senior soccer last week, Windsor beat West Van- couver 9-0, with Gregor Young scoring four goals. Sutherland also suffered at Windsor’s hands, losing 1-0 to the league-leader. Sutherland also lost to the other undefeated team, Argyle, 2-0. Argyle shut out Carson Graham later in the week 3-0. In another senior soccer game Carson Graham beat Seycove 2-1. Carson Graham A defeated Carson Graham B 3-0, Burnaby North beat Argyle 4-2 and Burnaby Cen- tral B shut out Argyle 3-0 in intermediate soccer. In jumor boys rugby, Argyle defeated Sentinel 15-4 and Hillsdie beat Balmoral 18-6. Juvenile scores: Sutherland 38, Hillside 4; Balmoral 30, Seycove 0. Ban- tam: Windsor 19, Hillside Red 0; Sutherland 14, Hand- sworth 0; Carson Graham 13, West Vancouver 3; Hillside Blue 16, Sentinel 4; Hillside Blue 8, Carson Graham 0. In senior boys football Fri- day, Windsor shut out Car- son Graham 19-0; and Hand- sworth squeaked by McNair 30-29. One junior boys football score was reported from last week - Handsworth over West Vancouver 26-9.
