Al2-Wednesday, Tune 25, 1980 - North Shore News MODEL OF LONSDALE QUAY shows the 10 project sites that make up the development. North Shore residents will have their only chance to directly comment on the Lonsdale Quay develop- ment, July 8, but all they will see are general outlines and mo real detafls of what the development will look like. And, apart from two major exceptions, North Vancouver City council has to approve the projects without knowing exactly what they will look like. The announcement of the public hearing came Monday evening, just hours after Premier Bill Bennctt officially launched con. struction of the first building on the site - the Pacific Marine Training Institute (PMTI) of B.C. What the public will sce at the hearing in July is the rough outline of the ten different project sites which the Lonsdale Quay QUEEN’S SCHOLAR James Stone. a Grade 12 pupil at St) Michaels Uni veraity School in Victoria, has been awarded a mayor scholarship to Queen's Unt verity in Kangston, Ontarto to study engineenng james whe tis the aon of Mrs Helen Stone of Kisber Vietorma this year has taken Avenue odvanced work to mathe matics biology chenustey and physics as well asia double tangliah course Phe us a prefect and has also play edo on one of the schoo! s nine competitive maghry leads St Michaels tinivensity Sehool §4OO Rie thane Rond Victor Eb ¢ a AVP atte ta cubated ry your people from free pre (fs none fifteen other Lime en rine Svlales ated lertads development has been split into. Because of the nature of the development, no detailed plans of the buildings will be shown although the public will be able to see the shape and use of each of the sites. Prior to the public hearing, City council had to given first readings to zoning bylaws for each of the projects, and this was done Monday. PRE-APPROVAL City director of permits and licences Frank Morris gave council members the details of cach of the projects, the approximate size and height of the buildings, and the number of parking Spaces cach project would supply. “With the PMTI you got a Titres the haw and is cut exactly as the tae tuatural cot naturally tails woat tolhows Complotely wash Comb and jet dry or blow dry WN stop wishing for beautiful nails. specific building, a specific package,” Morris toid council. “We are doing the same thing with ICBC (the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia building) but that will not be true of the remainder of the sites.” “You will have to pre- approve a package.” Morris said. But he assured council that the standard zoning and subdivision laws would apply to the projects and the Lonsdale Quay Develop- ment Board and the British Columbia Development Corporation will be watching the details of the development very closely. “Tomght is the oight we sect down the terms of reference,” Alderman Gary Payne said. the flow of penn atid wash Anyway Portal 68 a COMmbINGd with a cleate an exciting ew look you just and wear No “We are laying $eall on the table for the public.” Alderman Elko Kroon said he was worried that after the projects had been approved, the developers could climinate all of the landscaping shown on models of the site. “We could see it all disappear,” he said. Payne, who is on the Quay development board, said that Kroon had a point. But like Morris, he told council that the board would be kecping a very close cyce on the details of the projects.
