called scene development
plays.

Each cast and director
receives 15 hours of intense,
rehearsal-style instruction
over the Mainstage week,
with daily sessions open to
festival registrants.

There are five scene de-
velopment directors: — Bill
Dow, Bonnie Gibson, Allan
Lysell, Ted Price, and Peter
Eliot Weiss.

Bill Dow
Dow has worked across
Canada and toured the
United States and Great Bri-
tain, both as an actor and as
a director, Recent roles have
been in the Vancouver

The Black Banspiel of Walle
MacCrimmon (Richmond
Gateway) and Speed the
Plow (Alberta: Theatre Pro-
jects), for which he won the
Calgary Critic's Award for
best actor.
Bonnie Gibson

Gilson has worked as ar
tistic director of Touchstone
Theatre and Theatre Works,
and was co-founder and ar-
tistic director of Theatre
Sports in Vancouver.

As well as teaching in the
department of theatre and
fitm at the University of Brit-
ish Columbia (UBC), Gibson
is currently working on a
one-woman show.

What a wonderful double-bill of theatre history tonight!
Here is a play from 1951 that helped to define comedy-of-
the-absurd, yet horrifies rather than amuses. The nature of a
victim is examined as lonesco spins mesmerizing metaphors
that encompass both sexuality and fascism.

Look for the fogic that the players must create for
themselves if the tension that drives The Lesson is to work.
