By NEIL LU Contributing W A full house turned out for the public hearing on the proposed drive-through, part of a $1.8 mil- lion dollar commercial develop- ment project that inchides the McDenald’s outlet and” office space at the intersection of Ross Road and Lynn Valley Road. Ten residents voiced opposition to the drive-through saying it would congest residential streets and cause traffic hazards for resi- dents and their children, VANDALISM Residents also said vandalism, litter and loitering in the neighborhood would increase if council approved the drive- through. Goldie Dickson, a 36-year resi- dent who lives directly across from the proposed site on Ross Road, told North Vancouver District Council that a drive-through exit and entrance on her street woutd ‘‘violate’’? her right to a quiet neighborhood. She said a drive-through would worsen traffic safety at that in- tersection —- a junction which she said ‘‘has one of the highest acci- dent rates in the district.” If he had a choice, resident Bob Millward said ‘‘there is no way” he would live within several blocks of a fast-food restaurant. Litter, vandalism and ‘skidding tires, and blasting amplifiers’ from teen- aged patrons would destroy the neighborhood, he said. PULL OUT McDonald's real estate manager Paul Lachambre said the fast-food chain will pull out of the develop- ment if council rejects their request to build the drive-through. “We (McDonald’s) decided the only way we would go into the project was with a drive-through,”’ said Lachambre. ‘‘We will pull out if the drive-through is defeated.”’ * Over 30,000 sq.ft. total area McDonald's has already received a developme at permit for a restau- rant, but needs an amendment in order to make the ourlet a drive- through, Lachambre said he anticipates 37 per cent of total sales would tome from drive-through business at the Lynn Valley location.
