And the Segurs” chosen
North Vancouver venue
poses a few significant chal-
lenges.

Challenge one: {t has
most recently devoured both
Goodfellas Hand Vivace! —
two well-financed and protes-
sionally run restaurant opera-
tions.

Goodfellas lasted a seant
eight months, after having
taken over Vivace!’s elegant
120-seat Romar. dining room
in mid-1999 with much early
summer bravado.

Challenge two: It’s in
North Vancouver not West
Vancouver.

Challenge three: It’s a sec-
ond-storey location.

Best one off the top:
they're people people.

Lots of natural warmth;
lots of genuine human con-
nectivity; eminently
approachable and dependably
unflappable.

They're also ramiliar faces
from the get-go; even on a
first mecting patrons are
made to feel as if they've
been part of the Segur family
for vears; and unlike their
immediate predecessors the
Segurs are also keenly familiar
with their North Shore mar-
ket.

Rule No. 1: this is not
downtown. Out on the town
locally is different from out
on the town across the great
divide.

Here is home; there is out
of town.

As to the second-storey
drawback: les freres Segur are
second-storey specialists.
Chez Michel is testament to
that.
